Types of grinding in manufacturing

Die Sinker EDM or Die Sinking EDM is a machining solution that uses an electrical discharge to erode material from a workpiece. To begin with the workpiece is submerged in an electrically conductive liquid and then connected to a power source. The activated power source enables molding the workpiece in the desired shape with high accuracy and detail with the use of an electrode. Unlike milling or drilling machines, the die-sinking solution reduces the risk of damage due to erosion, vibration or excess heat. Also, there is a minimal tool wearing out. Die Sinker EDM is a versatile procedure and is suitable for a wide range of metals and plastics. It is suitable for developing parts with deep and intricate shapes, cavities and features in hard metals.

Wire cut EDM refers to the use of a thin wire charged with electricity to cut through the workpiece made of a conductive material. The workpiece is submerged in a dielectric fluid and secured with a machinist vise. The workpiece produces sparks as the electric current passes through it.
In this process, the electric spark is the tool that cuts the material as desired. This process is also controlled through deionized water and for flushing away the tiny pieces resulting from the cutting procedure.

Hole drilling EDM also known as small hole drilling EDM involves machining of holes. It is capable of machining tiny and deep holes with accuracy. When the surface of the workpiece sparks, its erosion occurs in a controlled manner and a small hole is developed. The diameter of the electrode determines the hole’s diameter while the electronics control the depth location of the holes.
